Error description

  • In certain circumstances a primary server with one or more
defined RSS servers may delete those definitions when the server
is moved to online mode from quiescent. This issue only occurs
when the primary server was started in recovery mode, such as
when it was created through a clone or restore operation or when
started with the -PHY argument. An RSS server that was already
connected at the time of the primary server's move to online
mode will remain connected but the next connection attempt will
fail. An error similar to the following will be seen in the
    primary server's message log:

Unexpected RSS authentication failure for '<RSS server>' during
            the Initialization Phase.

            Ensure that:
              1. You are using the correct server name.
              2. If using passwords, that you are using the correct
    password.
              3. The HA_ALIAS setting is correct.
              4. You have run the 'onmode -d add RSS' command at the
    primary to
register the RSS node attempting to connect.

If the RSS server is redefined, for example using the onmode -d
add RSS command, then it will be permitted to reconnect to the
    primary.

Note that this issue will only occur when the primary is started
in the manner described that places it in recovery mode, the
server is moved to online mode then back to quiescent mode
before again being moved to online mode. If the server is taken
offline and then restarted to either quiescent or online modes
then the issue will not occur.

Local fix

  • Shutdown and restart the primary server before moving it to
    quiescent mode
