IT26957: REPLICATION FAILS BETWEEN AN 8.1.5 OR HIGHER SERVER AND A SERVERRUNNING A VERSION OF CODE PRIOR TO 7.1.8 OR 8.1.2

APAR status

Error description

  • Replication between a server instance running the 8.1.5.0 or
    higher version of server code and another server instance
    running a version of server code prior to 7.1.8 or 8.1.2 may
    fail due to protocol errors.  At the time of the replication
    failure, errors similar to the following will be seen in the
    activity logs on the source and target servers:
    
    ANR0444W Protocol error on session 999999 for node SOURCE_SRVR
    (Linux/x86_64) - out-of-sequence verb (type ReplIdentify)
    received.
    ANR0484W Session 999999 for node SOURCE_SRVR (Linux/x86_64)
    terminated - protocol violation detected.
    
    ANR3178E A communication error occurred during session 11111
    with replication server TARGET_SRVR.
    ANR0479W Session 11111 for server TARGET_SRVR (Linux/x86_64)
    terminated - connection with server severed.
    
    These failures can occur during server-to-server authentication
    if the server certificates were manually configured.  These
    failures may be seen regardless as to which server instance is
    acting as the replication source.
    
    Spectrum Protect Versions Affected:
    Spectrum Protect server versions 8.1.5.0 and higher
    
    Initial Impact:
    High

  • Upgrade the source and target servers to the same version
