Error description

  • Configuring IBM Spectrum Protect Plus to deliver reports using
    SMTP and requiring authentication will fail with the following
      error:
    
        Notification failed:Exception happened during sending email:
         Failed messages: com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPSendFailedException:
         530 5.7.1 Client was not authenticated
    
      The ecxngp.log shows the following error as well:

  •   Configure SMTP to not need authentication.

Problem conclusion

  • IBM Spectrum Protect Plus has been updated to provide user name
    and password to send mail.
    The SMTP client was authenticated with the provided user name
    and password, and will not see
    "Notification failed:Exception happened during sending email:
    Failed messages" when providing the correct user name and
    and password; this message will still appear when an incorrect
    user name or password is provided.
