Error description

  • A restore vm command using -vmname=<new_vm_name> option fails
    with ANS9365E RC=2329 vmvisdk.cpp (6766), when the target VMware
VM is using manually assigned MAC address, as below:

    ------
    Protect> restore vm <vm_name> -vmname=<new_vm_name> ......
    .........
ANS9365E VMware vStorrage API error for virtual machine
    '<vm_name>'.
IBM Spectrum Protect Function name : CreateVM_USCORETask
    IBM Spectrum Protect File : ..\..\common\vm\vmvisdk.cpp (6766)
    API Return code : 2329
    API Error message :
ANS2523E The virtual machine named <new_vm_name> cannot not be
restored to the same configuration it had when it was backed up.
IBM Spectrum Protect will reconfigure the virtual machine to
include only the most essential configuration information and
    retry the restore operation.
    ------

When IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments Data
Protection for VMware tries to restore a VM to a new name, it
automatically clears MAC addresses for all NICs. But it does
not change addressType (manual or automatic). As result, in
this case, the addressType is manual and VMware rejects creating
VM with manual address type and no MAC address specified.

    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions affected:
IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments Data Protection
for VMware version 8.1.4 or higher on Windows and Linux.

    Initial Impact:
    Middle

    Additional Keywords:
    TSM, TS001057108

Local fix

  • Use testflag VMRESTORE_SKIP_CLEAR_NIC_MAC_ADDRESS to skip
    clearing MAC address.
