Error description

  • Problem Description:
    The manual page "Uninstalling Data Protection for VMware on
    Windows" describes the procedure to completely uninstall the
    product and everything.   But its order is incorrect, as below:
    - Step 4 requires removing only directories of RecoveryAgent and
    TDPVMware. It does not require removing directory of
    backup-archive client (data mover).   Actually, however, user
    can remove baclient directory, in case that the remaining files
    (logs, dsm.opt, etc.) are no longer needed in the future.
    - Step 7 requires dsmcutil command.  But dsmcutil command is
    already deleted at step 3.  User cannot delete data mover
    services.
    - Step 7b contains an "Important" statement.  But the statement
    refers non-exist step numbers (3b and 3c), and its content is
    not applicable for current versions.

Local fix

  • Until the document is corrected, do the following order to
    completely uninstall everything:
    1) Stop any Data Protection for VMware components and any data
    mover components that are running.
    2) Unmount any mounted virtual volumes.
    3) Delete any existing virtual machine backups by issuing the
    data mover delete backup command.
    4) Remove any installed data mover services by using dsmcutil
    remove command.
        dsmcutil remove /name:"TSM Remote Client Agent"
        dsmcutil remove /name:"TSM Client Acceptor"
    5) Click Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features >
    Uninstall a program. And uninstall the following programs.
        Data Protection for VMware suite
        IBM Spectrum Protect JVM
    6) Remove the following Data Protection for VMware files and
    directories (if they are on your system):
        - Directory "C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\RecoveryAgent"
        - Directory "C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\TDPVMware"
        - Directory "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common
    Files\Tivoli\TDPVMware"
        - File C:\ProgramData\installed.txt
        - File C:\ProgramData\TDPVMwareInstallation.log
        - File
    C:\ProgramData\Tivoli\TSM\vmFileLevelRestoreDataSet.xml
        - File
    C:\ProgramData\Tivoli\TSM\vmFileLevelRestoreDataSet.xml.bak
        - File
    C:\ProgramData\Tivoli\TSM\vmFileLevelRestoreDataSet.xml.lock
        - Directory C:\ProgramData\Tivoli\TSM\RecoveryAgent
        - Directory "C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\baclient"  (if the
    remaining log files, dsm.opt files, etc. are no longer needed )
