IT24931: BACKUP OPERATIONS MAY FAIL WITH EBACKUP-CLOSE-FILE ERROR

Error description

• When backups occur on virtual machines an unmount operation occu
  rs occurs for the datastore against the backup target storage de
  vice. The operation performs the umount using a -f (force) flag.
  A job session could have multiple mount points produced and then
  unmounted per job session against the same datastore and target
   volume. This coupled with the force unmount produced a
  condition that caused backups to fail with the following error:
  Backup of <vm name> failed. Error:close() failed for one or
  more disks. (ebackup-close-file)

Problem conclusion

• This problem has been resolved by the removal of the "-f" (force
  ) option when umounting the NFS share after backups complete. On
  e mount point is now used per datastore for a job session which
  could inlcude backups of multiple VMs using the same datastore.
  When a mount point is shared by multiple VMs being backed up, th
  e umount operation is performed only when the mount point is no
  longer in use. The "-l" (lazy) option is used for this.
