Error description

• Performing a Virtual Machine backup using IBM Spectrum Protect
  for Virtual Environments - Data Protection for VMware, the
  backup may fail reporting the following error:
  
  ANS2696E Control or data files were found to be compressed but
  not  deduplicated for vm <Virtual_Machine_name>
  
  
  This message will appear when:
  - on Data Mover client both compression and deduplication are in
  place :
  
   COMPRESSION: YES
   DEDUPLICATION: YES
  
  AND
  
  - on the IBM Spectrum Protect Server, the COPY DESTINATION for
  the management class hosting the CTL file (VMCTLMC), refers to a
  storage pool that doesn't use the deduplication (DEDUP=NO).

  data mover.

  Environments: Data Protection for VMware 8.1.4 and higher.

Local fix

• Set the VMSKIPCTLCOMPRESSION option to YES (VMSKIPCTLCOMPRESSION
  YES in client option file) and repeat a full VM backup.
