IT24675: CATALOG BACKUP TO LOCAL VSNAP FAILS WITH "FAILED TO FIND MATCHING STORAGE SERVER FOR SITE 1000*"

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Running an IBM Spectrum Protect Plus catalog backup using an SLA
  that points
  to a local vSnap (vSnap within the appliance) will fail with:
  "Failed to find matching storage server for site 1000*"
  This apar is being opened to:
  1 - Change the error message to reflect that backing up
  the catalog to a local vSnap is not supported. The catalog must
  be backed up
  to an external vSnap.
  2 - Update the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus manual to reflect that
  backing up
  the catalog to a local vSnap is not supported.
  Initial impact: Medium
  

Local fix

• Change the SLA policy used for catalog backups so that it
  points to a site that is not configured to use the local vSnap
  as shown in the
  Backup Storage tab.

Problem conclusion

• A change in the 10.1.1.142 patch 1 release provides a
  better message for this condition. When this condition
  arises, the job log will display:
  "Protection of catalog to localhost storage server is
  not supported."
  

Temporary fix

• The user should use an external backup storage (vSnap)
  instance for Catalog or Spectrum Protect Backup job
  types.
