IT24231: NETWORK SUBSCRIPTION FAILURE WHEN AUTHENTICATING INTO ADMINISTRATIVE CONSOLE

APAR status

Error description

  • User will experience a vague "Network Subscription Failure"
    error when authenticating into the Spectrum Protect Plus
    Administrative Console. This is due to tomcat directories being
    removed from the /tmp directories by systemd services that run a
     scheduled cleanup of the directory.
    
    The embedded tomcat Spectrum Protect Plus (SPP) micro-services
    create directories under the /tmp directory of the SPP appliance
    host, these directories are used as swap spaces by tomcat at
    runtime.
    
    On CentOS 7 there are systemd services that run on a schedule
    cleaning up directories under /tmp (by default purging
    directories that are older than 10 days). Some configuration
    fixes need to be added to prevent admin console related
    directories from being cleaned up.
    
    SPP System logs may contain IO exceptions from tomcat relating
    to the /tmp directory on the appliance

Local fix

  • Confirming the Administrative Console "administrator" password
    used to authenticate is correct and restart the Spectrum Protect
     Plus     appliance and retry the authenticating into the SPP
    administrative console.

Problem conclusion

  • SPP has been updated to avoid the conditions that present this
    problem. Configuration options have been added to manage
    temporary directory/swap space. These options will prevent
    systemd from cleaning up files used by the administrative consol
    operations.
