Error description
After the initial deployment of the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus Server or vSnap appliances, DNS settings should be verified. The current documentation does not provide the details on what settings or configuration items must be in place to work properly. The documentation needs include the required steps to verify proper DNS resolution between the various IBM Spectrum Protect Plus components, VMware or Windows Hyper-V, as well as virtual guest machines. These steps should also be used if any communication problems are noted in the logs during backups or restores. Initial Impact: Medium Platforms affected: Linux & Windows Versions affected: 10.1.0
Local fix
1 - Verify ping is successful between the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus server, vSnap, VADP proxies, VMware, and Hyper-V using (FQDN) Full Qualified Domain Names. 2 - Verify the FQDN is setup correctly on the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus server, vSnap, and VADP proxies. Use the Linux "nmtui" utility to setup this.

Problem conclusion
IBM Spectrum Protect Plus includes documentation that describes all of the network paths to and from various components within the solution. This documentation includes a high level architecture overview including port definitions and communication paths. Supplementing the diagram is an in bound and outbound port document describing the ports and their corresponding protocols and use. In addition, releases 10.1.2 and higher now include an IBM Spectrum Protect Serviceability tool that can be used to validate connectivity by IP or (FQDN) Fully Qualified Domain Name. Finally, IBM Spectrum Protect Plus has been improved in prior releases to more gracefully handle communication between components where DNS issues has arisen in the past.
