APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• VMware backups performance is degraded after the upgrade of IBM
  Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments - Data Protection for
  VMware to version 7.1.8 or 8.1.2.
  This is only seen when the virtual machines are located on an
  ESXi host running version 5.5.
  The performance drop is caused by an additional open-close
  operation on the disk that is backed up. This operation takes 1
  minute per disk, causing the performance drop.

  Products affected:
  IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments: Data Protection
  for VMware version 8.1.2 on Windows x64 and Linux x86 platforms.
  
  This problem also affects IBM Spectrum Protect Backup-Archive
  Client which is the data mover for Data Protection for
  VMware 7.1. If you are using Data Protection for VMware
  7.1.8 refer to APAR IT23237.
