Error description

  • Tapes with non standard internal labels when mounted with
8.1.2.0 server result in the following:
ANR8355E I/O error reading label for volume A123456 in drive
    DRIVE1 (/dev/mt123).
The tape mount fails. In previous verions, provided autolabel
is set to yes and it is not a WORM tape, the tape would be
relabeled and mounted properly. The new behavior is tied to
changes meant to address APAR IT18537. The behavior will be
corrected to allow for the automatic relabel of the impacted
    tape.
Problem has been encountered in relation to EDT/Gresham where
scratch tapes are relabeled upon scratch mount with a non
standard label that simply contain VOL1 and two filemarks.
There is an extended label option with EDT/Gresham that will
write VOL1, HDR1, HDR2 and two filemarks. However, the two
filemarks in the label block trigger the ANR8355E still.
IBM Spectrum Protect Server Versions Affected:
8.1.2.0 IBM Spectrum Protect Server on all platforms
    Initial Impact: Medium
    Additional Keywords: relabel autolabel
      |MDVREGR 8.1.2.0|

Local fix

  • Relabel impacted tapes via label libvol.
