Error description

  • Problem Description:
    During a CONVERT STGPOOL operation to a cloud-container storage
    pool, the server completes the conversion process successfully;
    the data is subsequently transferred to the cloud; and no error
    messages are reported. However, you might not be able to recover
    some of the files that were converted.

    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:

    If you ran the CONVERT STGPOOL command to convert data to a
    cloud-container storage pool, you might be affected by this
    APAR. To determine if this is the case, run the following
    commands by using the same instance user ID that is used to
    start the IBM Spectrum Protect server.

    1. If the database manager is not already active, start it.
         db2 start database manager

    2. Open a connection to the server database. If the server
    database is not the default, tsmdb1, specify the appropriate
    database alias for your database:
         db2 connect to tsmdb1

    Note: To identify the database name, run the following command:

        db2 list database directory

    3. Set the default database schema to tsmdb1.
        db2 set schema tsmdb1

    4. To determine the pool ID of the cloud-container storage pool
    that is used as the target pool of the conversion process, run
    the following IBM DB2 SQL command. Assuming that the
    cloud-container storage pool is named CloudPool, specify
    the command as follows:
        db2 "select poolid as CLOUD_POOLID from ss_pools where
    poolname=upper('CloudPool')"

    5. To identify any containers that are affected by this APAR,
    run the following DB2 SQL command. Replace CLOUD_POOLID with the
    pool ID that is displayed by the SELECT statement in the
    previous         step.
        db2 "select distinct cntrid from sd_all_chunks sdcl where
    poolid=CLOUD_POOLID group by cntrid having count(*)>(select
    chunk_cnt from sd_containers sdcn where
    sdcn.cntrid=sdcl.cntrid)"

    If the second DB2 command outputs any container identifiers, you
    are affected by this APAR. For additional assistance with
    identifying affected files so that new versions can be backed
    up, contact IBM Software Support.

    Repeat steps 4 and 5 for each cloud-container storage pool that
    is used as a target pool of a CONVERT STGPOOL operation.

    CONVERT STGPOOL operations to directory-container storage pools
    are not affected by this APAR.

    IBM Spectrum Protect Versions Affected: 8.1.1 and 8.1.2

    Initial Impact: High
    Additional Keywords: convert stgpool cloud-container pools
    local-to-cloud transfer

Local fix

  • Avoid using CONVERT STGPOOL to a cloud-container storage pool
    until the fix for this APAR is applied.
    Contact IBM for additional assistance on identifying affected
    files so that new versions may be backed up.
