IT21512: DSMCAD.EXE CAN HANG TRYING TO START DSMSVC.EXE DUE TO A HANDLE LEAK

Error description

  • On Windows platform, dsmcad.exe service can hang in a stopped
    state when trying
    to start dsmcsvc.exe

    This hang can occur due to a handle leak which causes the
    Windows Service Control Manager to be unable to start the
    scheduler service dsmcsvc.exe.
    
    
    Tivoli Storage Manager and IBM Spectrum Protect versions
    affected:
    Client 6.4.x, 7.1.x and 8.1.x for Windows platform

  • Reboot the client host.

Problem conclusion

  • The problem has been fixed so that there is no  sporadic
    schedule hangs during backups.
