Error description
There exists a rare condition where server can crash if a 'protect stgpool pool_name type=local' process fails due to an 'out of space' error condition. The activity log reports a 'protect stgpool' process failing before the crash occurs: ANR0200E PROTECT STGPOOL process xx failed due to insufficient space in destination storage pool. (SESSION: xxx, PROCESS: xx) This is an example when the target server is out of storage pool space. dbx on AIX shows a stack similar to: pthread_kill(??, ??) at 0x900000000569f14 _p_raise(??) at 0x900000000569764 raise.raise(??) at 0x900000000039ae8 abort() at 0x9000000000564e4 PsAbortServer(??) at 0x100015420 pkAbort(??) at 0x10000c8e0 pkDestroyMutex(??) at 0x1000086d0 SdFreeChildCtlDesc(??) at 0x100c81250 SdLocalProtectEndSubProcesses(??) at 0x100c76100 sdProtectionStgThread(??) at 0x100c7271c StartThread(0x0) at 0x10000da90 This rare condition exists when 'out of space' condition occurs, and two threads attempt to free the same memory structure. IBM Spectrum Protect versions affected: Server 7.1.3.x and higher, and 8.1.x and higher on all supported platforms Initial Impact: Medium Additional Keywords: TSM IBM Spectrum Protect protect stgpool space abend crash dump core
