APAR status
Closed as program error.
Error description
The "PROTECT STGPOOL" will not process deleted data extents if the process ends in a failure condition. The deletion of unused data extents from the target system is a crucial phase of the protection process as it keeps the two servers in sync from a storage perspective. The deletion phase is supposed to happen in the first within the protect stgpool process such that the data extent catalog will be reconciled regardless of the protection status of new, and unprotected, data extents. If this APAR condition is being encountered, this can lead to a bloated storage condition on the target which can result in failures due to lack of free storage pool space. This error would appear as follows: ANR0200E PROTECT STGPOOL process 23 failed due to insufficient space in destination storage pool IBM Spectrum Protect versions affected: Server 7.1.3 and higher on all supported platforms Initial Impact: medium Additional Keywords: TSM "PROTECT STGPOOL" ANR0200E "insufficient space" failed previous process "PURGEDATA=DELETED"
Local fix
Run the "PROTECT STGPOOL XXXXXX PURGEDATA=DELETED" command anytime a PROTECT STGPOOL process fails to complete or until the fix for this APAR is applied (or protect is successful).
