Error description

  • Increasing the VMDK disk size (over a power of 2 boundary) the
    second incremental backup of the vm can fail with ANS9919E
    Failed to find the expected control files for AB123.

    01/17/2017 11:43:40 ANS9919E Failed to find the expected control
    files for AB123.
    
    *NOTE*
    This looks like  APAR IT05265 - "BACKUP VM" MAY FAIL TO PASS THE
    DISK VERIFICATION CHECK WITH ERRORS ANS9921E/ANS9919E but is
    different as this problem occurs with the disk changes where the
    cbt granularity is changed.

    Note: The Backup-Archive Client is a prerequisite to using the
    Data Protection for VMware. In Data Protection for VMware
    environments, the Backup-Archive Client is also known as the
    data mover.
    
    This problem also affects IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual
    Environments: Data Protection for VMware 8.1.0. If you are using
    Data Protection for VMware 8.1.0, refer to APAR IT19852.
    

Local fix

  • Run a full backup by the setting '-vmverifyifaction=forcefull'
