Error description

  • There is a case sensitivity inconsistency for the 'vmname'
parameter for VMware guests for client commands like :
    'BACKUP VM' (case insensitive)
    'RESTORE VM' (case sensitive)
    'QUERY VM' (case insensitive)

The actual vmname casing recorded on the server will be the one
matching the guest name as seen in the VMware vCenter server.

    Example :

Guest name as seen in the vCenter server : 'Dummy'

'QUERY VM DUMMY' or 'QUERY VM dummy' or 'QUERY VM Dummy' will
    return the same output :

    # Backup Date Mgmt Class Size Type A/I Virtual Machine
    - ----------- ---------- ---- ------ --- ---------------
    1 <timestamp> STANDARD x GB IFINCR A Dummy

running a 'RESTORE VM' will only work if the right casing is
    used :

'RESTORE VM DUMMY' --> will not find the source VMware guest
    name
'RESTORE VM Dummy' --> will work as expected
'RESTORE VM dummy' --> will not find the source VMware guest
    name

The 'vmname' parameter value casing should be consistent
    independently from the command used.

    Products affected:
IBM Spectrum Protect Backup-Archive Client version
6.3, 6.4 and 7.1 on Linux and Windows
Note: The Backup-Archive Client is a prerequisite to using the
Data Protection for VMware. In Data Protection for VMware
environments, the Backup-Archive Client is also known as the
    data mover.

This problem also affects IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual
Environments: Data Protection for VMware 8.1.0. If you are using
Data Protection for VMware 8.1.0, refer to APAR IT20076.

    Initial Impact: Low

Additional Keywords: TSM case output vmname
