Error description

  • When using a pre-labeled WORM tape, the server fails to account
for a situation where the pre-label is non-conforming to
expected standards. It is expected that the following elements
are present in a pre-labeled tape:
    VOL1, HDR1, HDR2, filemark
The problem situation was encountered when the following was
    presented:
    VOL1, filemark, filemark
After writing data to this tape, subsequent attempts to read
data result in the following I/O error:
    ANR8302E I/O error on drive DRV1_T10KW (/dev/mt1) with volume
    TAPE123 (OP=FSR, Error Number=5, CC=409, rc = 2868, KEY= 80,
    ASC=00, ASCQ=
    01,~SENSE=F0.00.80.00.00.00.01.12.00.00.00.00.00.01.00.00.00.00.
    00.00.00.00.00.00.12.02.,~Description=Media fault). Refer to the
Tivoli Storage Manager documentation on I/O error code
    descriptions.~~~
Due to the additional filemark, the server is unable to position
to the location of the data on the tape. The server should have
validated the internal label and required that the tape be
    re-labeled prior to initial usage.
    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
7.1.x.x and higher IBM Spectrum Protect Server on all platforms
    Initial Impact: Low
    Additional Keywords: WORM

Problem conclusion

  • This problem was fixed.
Affected platform: AIX, HP, Linux, Solaris, and Windows.

ANR8890E The label for WORM volume XXX in drive YYY does not
    comply with IBM standards.

    Explanation
The label has only an HDR1 block and lacks other required
blocks. The label also includes two file marks. Because the
label does not comply with IBM standards, operations to restore
data to the volume will fail.

    SystemAction
The server can back up data from the volume. However, the server
cannot restore data to the volume.

    UserResponse
To use the specified volume with the server, you must overwrite
the label with a new label in IBM standard format.

Relabel the volume by issuing the LABEL LIBVOLUME command.
Restriction: A WORM tape volume can be relabeled only if it is a
    scratch volume.
