Error description

  • In PureApplication System patterns one of the recovery
mechanisms when the system notices that a non-persistent virtual
machine (VM) has switched to the failed state is to clone the
VM and attempt to start it and recover.

The clone will re-use the VM identifier, and when requesting an
IP address the system returns the IP address that was assigned
to the original VM identifier, causing the new VM to go
into error state, as that IP address is already in use.

The error in the instance logs is:
"CWZIP2092E The  address [identifier] cannot be assigned because
of its current state assigned or because it is already linked
to another instance".

  • Code needs to be added to get a new IP address for the cloned
VM during a recovery scenario.

  • A code fix is being provided in PureApplication System and
BlueMix Local System version 2.2.3.0.
