Error description

  • Starting in Spectrum Protect server version 7.1.6, the AUDIT
    LIBRARY command returns error GRC_PATH_INVALID_DEVICE, when tape
    drives are powered off or removed, SANDISCOVERY is set to off,
    and the drive paths to the devices still exist in the server.
    The AUDIT LIBRARY will fail with the following generic
    message that does not describe the reason for failure:

    ANR8460E AUDIT LIBRARY process for library <LIB_NAME> failed.

    Trace statements will show the following:
    .
    [psQValidFileSystem]:statfs for /dev/rmtxxx failed with errno 2
    [PvrPsOpenDevice]:open() with errno is 2 devName is /dev/rmtxxx
    [DiscoverNewPath]:Attemtping to discover a new path for drive
          DRIVEX (/dev/rmtxxx) with serial number of 0000010101010.
    [DiscoverNewPath]:SAN discovery is disabled.
    [MmsCheckTapeId]:Drive DRIVEX failed to open with the device
          /dev/rmtxxx error 2843
    .
    Error 2843 means :  GRC_PATH_INVALID_DEVICE
    .
    Note: Older server versions were not coded to return error
          GRC_PATH_INVALID_DEVICE, when drives are powered off or
          removed. Previous versions reported the AUDIT LIBRARY
          process as successful when these types of inconsistencies
          existed with the inventory of library devices.

    Applies to all current 6.3 and 7.1 server versions.

Local fix

  • Make sure all tape drives are powered on, and all defined drive
    paths are available on the OS.
