Error description

  • Restoring a VM using the Data Protection for VMware WebClient
Extension creates a new GUID when this VM is restored to the
original VM name. This is because the Webclient Extension
handles all restored VMs as renamed VMs and creates a new GUID
    to avoid duplicate GUIDs.

When restoring a VM to the original VM name, it should keep its
    original GUID.

    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments - Data Protection
    for VMware 7.1.6

    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    n/a

    Initial Impact: Low

Additional Keywords: TSM, TDP4VE, Tivoli, Storage, Manager,

Local fix

  • Restore the VM using one of the following methods retains the
    original GUID:
    - Use the IBM Spectrum Protect Client Command line
    - Use the IBM Spectrum Protect Client GUI

Problem conclusion

Temporary fix

Comments

  • This issue is addressed by new functionality in the next release
of Data Protection for VMware web client extension. The next
release introduces the 'Replace' option to the restore options,
which allows the users to replace a virtual machine using the
    original UUID and name.
