Error description

  • Error Description: When OpenVMS files are backed up using the
client option of "compress yes" and is stored in a directory
container pool, it is not able to be restored. No messages are
reported on the server activity log. However if the backup is
directed to a file pool, this problem is not seen. Also, if a
backup without the option of "compress yes" is performed to a
directory container pool, the problem will not occur.

Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected: All 7.1.3.000 servers
    and later

Customer/L2 Diagnostics: Verify that the client option "compress
yes" is being used and that the data is being stored in a
    Directory Container pool.

The following is seen when performing the restore:

    ABC> restore sys$login:login.com test.txt/log/sum
    %ABC-I-QRYPASS, 13:42:17.87 Scanning catalog for
    restore/retrieve candidates
    %ABC-I-RSTPASS, 13:42:17.92 Restoring/retrieving file data from
    the server
    %ABC-W-PROCERR, error processing $1$DGA65:[TEST]TEST.TXT;153
-ABC-W-OBJHDRLOST, file information from server is incomplete

    Initial Impact: Low

Additional Keywords: restore OpenVMS compress compression dir
    container directory

Local fix

  • Do not use the "compress yes" option or backup data to a FILE
    storage pool.
