IT16424: PROTECT STORAGE POOL SHOWS OBJECTS FAILED WITH NO PRIOR ERROR ORFAILURE MESSAGE WHEN CONTAINER UNAVAILABLE

Error description

  • Protect storage pool completion messages indicate a failure yet
    there is no prior message indicating any sort of error or
    failure during the protect processing. Neither the server
    activity log nor the dsmffdc.log contains any indication of they
    the failure occurred. The follow are examples of messages that
    may be seen indicating the process state of FAILURE and/or some
    amount of data failed the protect processing:
    
    ANR0986I Process 2 for Protect Stgpool running in the FOREGROUND
     processed 23,950,745 items for a total of  1,936,583,042,222
     bytes with a completion state of FAILURE at 03:27:16. (SESSION:
     177, PROCESS: 2)
    ANR1893E Process 2 for Protect Stgpool completed with a
     completion state of FAILURE. (SESSION: 177, PROCESS: 2)
    ANR4980I The protect storage pool process for DEDUPPOOL is
     completed. Extents protected: 23950151 of 23950745.  Extents
     deleted: 17532130 of 17532130. Amount protected: 1,803 GB of
     1,803 GB. Amount failed: 113 MB. Amount transferred: 1,785 GB.
     Elapsed time: 0 Days, 5 Hours, 28 Minutes. (SESSION: 177)
    
    Query container state=unavailable will show that there is at
    least one unavailable container in the storage pool being
    protected:
