Error description
Using the Backup Archive client Web GUI to selectively restore a file or folder from a Netapp NAS filer, which includes non-English characters either within the filename or as part of the path to the filename, will result in the filename getting truncated upon restore, if the overall length of the path or file exceeds 7 bytes. This only affects Netapp NAS filers running any version of OnTap. The file itself is structurally sound. It is purely the filename that is affected. Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected: IBM Spectrum Protect 7.1.3 and above, on all operating systems | MDVREGR 7.1.3.0-TIV_5698MSV | Customer/L2 Diagnostics (If Applicable) Example restoring a file called /Directory1/Filenäme1.xlsx will result in the file actually being restored as /DirectFilenäm Example restoring a file called /Directöry1/Directory2/Filename2.xlsx will result in the file actually being restored as /DirectFilenam Reviewing the dsmffdc.log file shows the truncation in effect : [05-20-2016 08:11:17.020][ FFDC_GENERAL_SERVER_ERROR ]: (imbkqry.c:3494) String truncation, len=34 [05-20-2016 08:11:17.020][ FFDC_GENERAL_SERVER_ERROR ]: (imbkqry.c:3495) String truncation, len=24 The above indicates the high level bytes (path) and low level bytes (file) which should be restored. We truncate each one at 7 bytes, so the filename result upon restore is an amalgamation of the first 7 bytes of the high and low level names. The file can be manually renamed afterwards. The contents are not affected. If you restored a filename which had a high level name and low level name less than 7 bytes, this would restore as expected. Example /rööt/ä.txt This would get restored as /rööt/ä.txt Initial Impact: Low|Medium|High Medium Additional Keywords: TSM, Spectrum Protect, network appliance, webgui,
Local fix
Use the RESTORE NODE command or restore the file using the GUI which will still succeed, then rename the file to the correct name afterwards
