Error description

  • An IBM Spectrum Protect (Tivoli Storage Manager) Server can
report an invalid value for Logical Space Occupied via the QUERY
OCCUPANCY command for nodes storing data in directory-container
    storage pools.

Users may notice that the total Logical Space Occupied value is
larger than it should be, and is most noticeable when the node
is not tracking any backup/archive data at all (all files have
    been expired).

This is only a reporting issue with QUERY OCCUPANCY/SELECT FROM
OCCUPANCY. The inflated occupancy value does not impact storage
    pool utilization or reporting.

    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    None.

    Initial Impact:
    Medium

    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
All 7.1.3.000+ IBM Spectrum Protect Server users of directory-
    container storage pools.

    Additional Keywords:
TSM DIRECTORY CONTAINER DEDUP DEDUPLICATION STORAGE POOL OCC
OCCUPANCY LOGICAL SPACE OCCUPIED QUERY Q SELECT LOGICAL SPACE

Local fix

  • Utilize the directory-container pool deduplication reporting
facility (7.1.3.000+) via the GENERATE DEDUPSTATS and QUERY
DEDUPSTATS administrative commands. The "Total Data Protect
(MB)" field generated by this output is analogous to "Logical
Space Occupied (MB)" reported by QUERY OCCUPANCY, but is not
affected by the issue described by this APAR.
