Error description

  • Error Description:

The Tivoli Storage Manager Server will display the following
error when the Backup Archive client attempts to selectively
backup or archive a file which is managed by the Hierarchical
Storage Manager (HSM) client and which already has a backup copy
    :

    ANR9999D_xxx DoBackMigr(smnode.c:18426) Thread<yyyy>:
Bitfile not found for BackMigr, session xxxx,
client HSMNODE (LINUX86), bitfile < bitfile >. (SESSION: nnnn)

In order to see this issue, the HSM node has had it's data
replicated to a server which is now it's primary server and a
backup of the file already exists, so an attempt is made to
clone the file from backup storage.

The HSM client will be able to recall the data successfully, but
it will not be possible to restore the data using the Backup
    Archive client.

    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
All Supported versions of Tivoli Storage Manager Server and IBM
Spectrum Protect on all operating systems

    Customer/L2 Diagnostics (If Applicable)

Using the Backup Archive client and running the "dsmc selective"
or "dsmc archive" command (or using the Backup Archive client
GUI) against an HSM migrated file which already has a backup
copy will display the following error :

ANS1999E Selective processing of '/AnyDir/AnyHSMFile' stopped.
ANS1314E File data currently unavailable on server

At the same time, the following is logged within the activity
log on the server for the client session :

    ANR9999D_xxx DoBackMigr(smnode.c:18426) Thread<yyyy>:
Bitfile not found for BackMigr, session xxxx,
client HSMNODE (LINUX86), bitfile < bitfile >. (SESSION: nnnn)

This problem is caused by replication which aggregates
HSM-migrated files from the source server to the target server.
You then make the target server as the primary server for that
data and using the Backup Archive client to either backup or
archive a migrated file, where the storage pool in which the
migrated file resides is distinct from the storage pool to where
the file is to be archived or backed up. This causes the Tivoli
Storage Manager server to clone the file to the storage pool
which fails with the above error.

The other necessary condition to experience this problem is to
use the "dsmigfs update" to update the HSM clients dsmmigfstab
file to point to the target replication server before attempting
the backup or archive of the migrated file.

This problem will be seen in all server levels that support
    replication.

The file in question can still be recalled successfully using
the HSM client, but an attempt to restore the file using the
Backup Archive client will display :

ANS1302E No objects on server match query.

If restoring the data, nothing else is logged in the activity
log on the server apart from the session starting and ending.
The data itself is not damaged on the server, but is simply not
    accessible.
