Error description
Customer is reporting that after installing IBM OS AIX Image version 2.1.3.0, that the version 2.1.3.0 image has the sit0 interface configured as a valid IPv4 address, however; it should be an IPv6 address. Example: OS AIX Image 2.1.3.0: # ifconfig -a en0: flags=1e084863,480<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTI CAST,GRO UPRT,64BIT,CHECKSUM_OFFLOAD(ACTIVE),CHAIN> inet6 xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx/xx inet6 xxxx::xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx/xx tcp_sendspace 262144 tcp_recvspace 262144 rfc1323 1 en1: flags=1e084863,4c0<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTI CAST,GRO UPRT,64BIT,CHECKSUM_OFFLOAD(ACTIVE),LARGESEND,CHAIN> inet xx.xxx.xx.xxxx netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast xx.xxx.xxx.xxx tcp_sendspace 262144 tcp_recvspace 262144 rfc1323 1 sit0: flags=8100041<UP,RUNNING,LINK0> inet6 ::xx.xxx.xx.xxx/xx lo0: flags=e08084b,c0<UP,BROADCAST,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST ,GROUPRT ,64BIT,LARGESEND,CHAIN> inet xxx.x.x.x netmask 0xff000000 broadcast xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx inet6 ::1%1/128 tcp_sendspace 131072 tcp_recvspace 131072 rfc1323 1 The customer reported this problem after attempting to install IBM Patterns and from the standard.out file the customer was able to see the interface was not getting configured properly and was choosing the public_interface variable value sit0. The pattern detects the sit0 interface as public interface, however; it should find the en1 interface. ###################################### Getting public interface name ###################################### Public interface name: sit0 ###################################### Getting gateway ip for use as quorum device ###################################### Gateway IP: Validating ip address -> Error: Empty IP address!
Local fix
Customers can try the following to see if autoconf6 -6 will skip creating tunnel interface in the customer environment. The original autoconf6 command without -6 does not create sit0 interface in the IBM test environment. 1. open /etc/rc.tcpip and comment out the following line start /usr/sbin/autoconf6 "" " -Ri en0 " 2. reboot the VM shutdown -r now 3. run the following command when VM is up /usr/sbin/autoconf6 -6 -Ri eth0 4. run ifconfig -a to see if sit0 is present or not. If autoconf6 -6 does not create sit0 interface, the customer can create a new image using the following: 1. extend the image 2. logon the extended instance, then open /opt/IBM/AE/AS/vmc-net-interface/dmtf_network_bringup search "acopt=", it should return 2 lines. replace acopt="-i" with acopt="-6 -i" replace acopt="-Ri" with acopt="-6 -Ri" 3. capture the image In the new deployment, autoconf6 should have -6 option defined in rc.tcpip.
Problem summary
The sit0 interface was being configured in error.
Problem conclusion
A code fix is being provided in PureApplication System version 2.2.0.0 in the IBM OS Image for AIX Systems version 2.1.5.0 and version 1.1.5.0.
