IT12648: PUREAPPLICATION SOFTWARE: UPGRADE TO NEW VERSION COMPLETES, RESTARTS, AND THEN GOES THROUGH INSTALLATION AGAIN

IBM PureApplication System Version 2.2.0.0

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When upgrading PureApplication Software from one release to
  another, the upgrade appears to complete successfully, then
  restarts.  When it restarts the upgrade process starts again and
  repeats continuously.
  
  
  In the output of
  
  > service purescale version
  
  It can be seen that the OS buildVersion will not be equal to
  the Data buildVersion, e.g.
  
  > service purescale version

  In the installation log
  (upgrade_pureapp_software_yyyymmdd_hhmmss.log), the following
  error is noted:

  Warning: Group ipas_install does not exist.

  update
  

Local fix

• Normally after the PureApplication Software installation
  completes we should have a file created at
  /etc/yum.repos.d/ipas.repo with content:
  
  [ipas.repo]
  enabled = 1
  name = ipas.repo
  baseurl =
  file:///opt/ibm/pureapp-software/rpms
  
  In this case it seems that the repository was not configured or
  was disabled manually by customer, and the installation could
  not proceed.
  
  To work around this issue, run:
  
  yum repolist
  
  in results you should have
  
  ipas.repo      ipas.repo       3
  
  If you do not have it you can create a file in
  
  /etc/yum.repos.d/ipas.repo
  
  (ipas.repo is a file name) with content:
  
  [ipas.repo]
  enabled = 1
  name = ipas.repo
  baseurl = file:///opt/ibm/pureapp-software/rpms
  enabled = 0
  gpgcheck = 0
  
  please verify that /opt/ibm/pureapp-software/rpms exists on
  system and contains files similar to this:

  ipas-core-2.1.2.0-20150924.2004.805.x86_64.rpm

  after this run
  
  yum clean all
  
  This should create a clean repo and than you can start
  installation process again.
  

Problem summary

• The installer code needs to check for requirements in
  the environment before running.
  

Problem conclusion

• A code fix is being provided in PureApplication Software
  version 2.2.0.0.
