APAR status

Error description

  • After installing a new Tivoli Storage Manager BA Client the
    password file TSM.PWD, is created by setting PASSWORDACCESS
    parameter to GENERATE, and running a command such as "dsmc query
    session". Under the following circumstances the command may fail
    to create the password file:
    1. The BA Cient is installed for the first time on the client
       side where the password file has not yet been created.
    2. The new node is registered on the Tivoli Storage Manager
       Server side with FORCEPWRESET=YES, and USERID=NONE.
    3. The client dsm.sys file has PASSWORDACCESS set to GENERATE.
    4. The BA client command interface ?dsmc", is executed to create
       the password file, and generate the new password. The
       password file is not created and the attempt fails with
       message:  ANS2260E Failed to lock TSM password file.

Local fix

  • Use on one of the following two options:
    1. First register the node with FORCEPWRESET=NO, and then run
       "dsmc query session" to generate the password file. Once the
       password file has been generated run UPDATE NODE command
       with FORCEPWRESET=YES, to force the client admin to change
       the password.
    2. Create the password directory in advance:
         mkdir /etc/adsm

Problem conclusion
