IT12098: TIVOLI STORAGE MANAGER BA CLIENT IMAGE BACKUP ENTERS AN ENDLESS RETRY LOOP UPON A COPY STG POOL FAILURE

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The backup image is backed up to primary storage pool and copy
    storage pool simultaneously.  Tivoli Storage Manager BA client
    command Backup Image will retry in separate session if the
    orignial session fails if the copypool does not have enough
    space.
    
    Backing up to an active data storage pool can also run into
    the problem. If the active data pool is not vailable or
    there is not enough space, this can also cause image
    backup to show the same problem behavior.
    
    Diagnostic Info:
    
    There are following message in dsmerror.log

    The session number of ANR1405W will be changed and repeat the
    error in actlog;

    following message in the server activity log:
    
    ANR1014W The active-data storage pool activepool is either not
    available, or does not have enough space for a simultaneous

Problem conclusion

  • Upon the fix, the backup image will retry its data transaction
    in the same session so that the data can be stored in the
    primary storage pool if the original transaction has failed due
    to a copy pool write failure and COPYCONTINUE is set to 'yes'
    for the primary storage pool.
    

Temporary fix

  • A fix for this problem is currently targeted for 7.1.4.1 interim
    fix package. Until this interim fix is actually available this
    information is subject to change at the discretion of IBM.
