APAR status

Error description

  • When configuring Tivoli Storage Manager services (scheduler
    and/or client accept daemon) the setup wizard ignores the value
    set for event logging and sets it up with default value (yes).
    
    As a result, all the information and errors are reported in the
    Windows Event log.
    
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    
    The value of event logging for the services can be verified
    using the dsmcutil tool with the following syntax:
    
    dsmcutil query schedule /name:?<scheduler service name>
    
    Check for the value ?event logging?  that it is set to the
    default value:
    
    Event Logging       = YES
    
    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected: All Tivoli Storage
    Manager version v6.x and v7.x on Windows platforms
    
    Initial Impact: Low
    
    Additional Keywords: setup wizard event logging yes
    

Local fix

  • After having created the service use dsmcutil tool for setting
    the "event logging" parameter at the desired parameter.
    
    For example:
    
    dsmcutil update /name:"TSM Central Scheduler Service"
    /eventlogging: No

Problem conclusion

  • The problem has been fixed so that TSM JGUI client's Setup
    Wizard handles  "Even Logging" option in the proper way now
    enabling event looging when this option is set to 'Yes' and
    disabling event logging otherwise.
