APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • If there is not enough space in the file system to create a full
    volume, the server can create a volume with a size of 0KB on
    the file system. Space reclamation processes will not reclaim
    these kind of volumes, causing them to remain on the storage
    pool indefinitely. This problem affects the file device class
    storage pools.
    
    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
    Tivoli Storage Manager server all supported versions on all
    supported platforms.
    
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics (If Applicable)
    The server activity log will contain error messages regarding
    the out-of-space condition on the file system, similar to these:
    ANR8341I End-of-volume reached for FILE volume xyz.
    ANR8785E Out-of-space in file system for FILE volume xyz.
    
    Check the directories where the volumes are created, the volume
    sizes are 0.
    
    Run the server command QUERY VOLUME F=D, the output will show:
    Volume Status: Full
    Pct. Util: 0.0
    Pct. Reclaimable Space: 0.0

Local fix

  • These volumes do not contain any valid data and can be deleted.
    To delete these volumes, use the server command:
    DELETE VOLUME <volume_name> DISCARD=YES
