Error description

  • Tivoli Storage Manager documentation provides instruction on how
to to trace the User ID/Password plug-in dsmdb2pw. This
information can be found under the section Tivoli Storage
    Manager>Troubleshooting and support>Resolving Tivoli Storage
Manager server problems>Resolving database errors>Tracing the
    dsmdb2pw plug-in.

Here is the provided instruction for Windows:
    ---------------------------------------------
If the DB2_VENDOR_INI db2set variable is set, find the file that
it points to and add the following line: set
    DB2_DSMDB2PW_TRACEFILE=filename. If the DB2_VENDOR_INI db2set
variable is not set, create a file, add set
DB2_DSMDB2PW_TRACEFILE=filename to the file. Then, issue the
    following command:
db2set -i instance DB2_VENDOR_INI=path to file just created.
After you restart DB2, the trace file is stored in the
dsmdb2pw.trc file in the directory pointed to by the
    DB2_VENDOR_INI db2set variable.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    --------

    This information is incorrect.
    1. Cannot use the word ?set? when setting up the trace. To
enable the trace, just add ?DB2_DSMDB2PW_TRACEFILE=filename? to
the file specified by the DB2_VENDOR_INI variable.
    2. Filename must be specified with an absolute path. For
example, specify the file as C:\Program
    Files\Tivoli\TSM\server1\dsmdb2pw.trc
    3. The trace does not have to be named dsmdb2pw.trc and does not
have to be in the directory pointed to by the DB2_VINDOR_INI
variable. Users can choose the name of their choice.

Problem conclusion

  • The Windows section of the Tracing the dsmdb2pw plugin topic in
the trouble shooting guide Troubleshooting guide now reads as
    follows:

Run the db2set command to see if the DB2_VENDOR_INI variable is
    set:
    db2
If the DB2_VENDOR_INI variable is not set, create a
    configuration file, for example c:\Program
    Files\Tivoli\TSM\server1\tsmdbmgr.env.

Update the configuration file listed in the DB2_VENDOR_INI
    variable, for example c:\Program
Files\Tivoli\TSM\server1\tsmdbmgr.env, with the location of the
    trace file:
    DB2_DSMDB2PW_TRACEFILE=C:\Program
    Files\Tivoli\TSM\server1\dsmdb2pw.trc

Then, issue the following commands to set up the trace, halt the
Tivoli Storage Manager server and restart the server:
    db2set -i instance DB2_VENDOR_INI=C:\Program
    Files\Tivoli\TSM\server1\tsmdbmgr.env
    halt
    dsmserv -k server_instance
The trace information is stored in the dsmdb2pw.trc file in the
    C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\server1\ directory.

Tip: You can use the file name and directory of your choice for
the name and location of the trace file.

This problem is currently projected to be fixed in
levels 6.3.6 and 7.1.4. Note that this is subject to change at
    the discretion of IBM.

    Affected platforms: Windows.
