APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• After the installation of the Tivoli Storage Manager Client the
  client is not able to load the GSKit functions under some
  circumstances. This is caused by a misleading link to the lib
  directory of the GSKit library. When /usr/lib64 is present, the
  debian packages create symbolic links in /usr/lib64. Otherwise,
  the links are created in /usr/lib. This directory is not in the
  default PATH on Ubuntu. As a result, applications cannot find
  GSKit libraries at runtime.
  Solution: If possible remove the directory /usr/lib64 before the
  installation of the GSKit library. If this is not possible, the
  links must be created manually in /usr/lib after installation.

  The Tivoli Storage Manager Client requires the gskit installed
  on the client node.
  On Ubuntu the gskit creates library links at the installation
  time the Tivoli Storage Manager Client cannot find.
  Therefore the Tivoli Storage Manager Client does not start on
  Ubuntu.
  

Problem conclusion

• The problem has been fixed by delivering an new gskit, so that
  it no longer occurs.
