Error description

  • During the mount of a Linux virtual machine snapshot,
using the VMware plug-in, the mount process can time out
    on Redhat 6.6.
Note: This problem has been witnessed on RHEL 6.5
How to determine if you are seeing this problem:
In the VE Web GUI, or Plug-in:
In "recent tasks > progress history" you can see the statement
"Mounting block devices. Please wait..." before "Unmount volumes
    and disconnecting targets.
"Mounting block devices. Please wait..." before "Unmount volumes
    and disconnecting targets.
    .
A SERVICE trace on the Linux client will show:

for 5 minutes before the mount process stops.
    Initial impact: Medium
Platforms affected: Linux RHEL 6.6. 7.1.1 client
Note: RHEL 7 is also affected by this apar.

Local fix

  • In the Data Protection for VMware Plug-in (or web gui):
    - Start the mount in the TDP for VMware GUI
    - go to recent tasks
    - select the mount task and expand the process history
    - refresh until you can see the message "Mounting block devices.
    Please wait..."
    - then run the command "lvm pvscan" on the Linux MP as root.
    - return to the GUI and check whether the mount succeeded.
