The problem is that in 7.1.0, we introduced a new feature of
"super aggregate", by default, files bigger than 10G will be
stored as super aggregates. There are some background threads
used to delete these kind of objects. There is a timing window
for the "delete vol" thread between fetching a segment and
deleting it. A background super aggregate deletion thread could
delete this same segment in this timing window. This problem
affects 7.1.0 and above server levers on all supported
platforms. It's not related to specific volumes but related to
    super aggregates.

    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions affected:
Tivoli Storage Manager Server 7.1 on all supported platforms.

    Customer/L2 Diagnostics (If Applicable)
BFDESTROY, ASVOL and ASDEALLOC trace classes will be helped to
    find the issue.

    Initial Impact:
    Middle

    Additional Keywords:
Tivoli Storage Manager, TSM, delete volume

    Additional L2 info:
    None.

Local fix

  • Retry "delete volume".
