APAR status

Error description

  • The InstallationManager tool provided with the Tivoli Storage
    Manager server installation media uses a shared resource area
    (directory) to permanently store installation packages.
    
    The default shared resources area is /opt/IBM/IBMIBMShared on
    UNIX platforms and C:\Program Files\IBM\IBMIMShared on the
    Windows platform.
    
    Installation files for every level installed on the system
    are cached to this location.  Previous installation files
    are not automatically pruned or removed when a newer level
    is installed.
    
    An option exists within InstallationManager to delete all of
    the files in this shared resources area, however, doing so
    can lead to uninstall or rollback errors.
    
    There should be an option to automatically prune these cached
    installation files based on the number of previous versions
    a user wants to keep on the system.
