IT04554: 7.1.1 VM BACKUP FAILS WITH ANS0400E LICENSE FILE COULD NOT BE OPENED.

APAR status

Error description

  • After upgrading to the 7.1.1.0 Backup/Archive client using the
    stand along B/A client install package, a virtual machine backup
    will fail with the following
    errors:
    ANS4174E Full VM backup of VMware Virtual Machine 'machinename'
    failed with RC=2400
    mode=Incremental Forver - Incremental, target node name='node',
    data mover node
    name='node'.
    Removing snapshot for virtual machine 'machinename'
    ANS2888E Backup VM Full VN Incremental is unable to run.
    A valid TSM for Virtual Environments license file (tdp4vmw.lic)
    cannot be located.
    ....
    ANS0400E License file could not be opened.
    Steps to recreate:
    1- Machine must currently have a 6.3 ,6.4 or 7.1.0.x B/A client
    installed.
    2 - Machine must currently have the 6.3, 6.4, or 7.1.0.x TSM for
    Virtual Environments enablement
    file installed. This is automatically installed during the TSM
    for Virtual Environments install.
    3- Upgrade the B/A client to 7.1.1.0 using the stand alone B/A
    client install package.

Local fix

  • 1 - Run custom install of the 7.1.1.0 TSM for Virtual
    Environments install suite from PPA, Choose to only install the
    TSM for Virtual Environments enablement file.

Problem conclusion

  • License file handling code was corrected.
    

Temporary fix

  • -Tivoli Storage Manager Client on Windows 7.1.1.1
    -Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments: Data
     Protection for VMware 7.1.1.1
    
    Note: Until a Data Protection for VMware packaged fix of a
    fixing TSM Client level is available, Data Protection for
    VMware customers can install and use a fixed level of the the
    TSM Client in their environment.
