Error description

  • Microsoft Windows Cluster environments that use Client Acceptor
managed services for the cluster groups can encounter a hang
condition when trying to perform a failover of the Client
Acceptor's generic resource if the Remote Client Agent
(dsmagent.exe) is running. The failover stays in 'offline
pending' until the user manually stops the dsmagent service. It
is important to note that the Client Acceptor service is
configured as a generic service. The Remote Client Agent is not
a generic service, but it is dependant on the Client Acceptor.
This behavior has not been seen with a Client Acceptor managed
    scheduler service (dsmcsvc.exe).

    Versions Affected:
Tivoli Storage Manager Backup/Archive Client versions 6.2, 6.3,
6.4, and 7.1 on Microsoft Windows 2008 or 2012 (All editions)

    Customer/L2 Diagnostics (If Applicable)
    Steps to recreate:
    1) Open a browser and go to the URL of the Webclient. The
Client Acceptor will then start the Remote Client Agent
    (dsmagent)
    2) Close the browser - dsmagent will stay running for 33 minutes
    before timing out
    3) Attempt a failover while dsmagent is running. The failover
attempt hangs at 'offline pending' until dsmagent is manually
    stopped.

    Initial Impact:
    Low

Local fix

  • Manually stop the Remote Client Agent prior to performing a
failover, or add the option below to the cluster node's client
options file (dsm.opt) so that the Remote Client Agent times out
in 1 minute (instead of the default value of 33 minutes)
    TESTFLAG AGENTTIMEOUT:1
