IT03408: INSTALLATION OF TPC REPORTS FAIL WITH BPCIN0004E COMPONENT ON OF THE TIVOLI STORAGE PRODUCTIVITY CENTER REPORTS

APAR status

Error description

  • In the TPC installer log on Windows shows following error:
    Execute failed: java.io.IOException: Cannot run program
    "\bin\trcmd.bat"
    On Linux/AIX it shows: The directory /cognos/bin does not exist
    
    When trying to install TPC reports, at TPC preinstall, if the
    error: "BPCIN0238E The Tivoli Common Reporting server located at
    C:\Program Files\IBM\JazzSM\reporting cannot be reached." occurs
    for some reason and the user clicks then the previous button on
    "Configure Jazz for Service Management and Tivoli Common
    Reporting" panel, fixes the problem in Tivoli Common Reporting
    and resumes the TPC installation by clicking Next on the "Choose
    Installation Location and Type" panel, the installer may fail at
    installation of TPC reports with
    "BPCIN0004E An error occurred during the installation of the
    Tivoli Storage Productivity Center reports component."

Problem summary

    * scenario when TPC reports are installed later, as the        *
    * remaining TPC component to be installed.                     *
    * The issue happens only if there are JazzSM validation errors *
    * on the "Configure Jazz for Service Management and Tivoli     *
    * Common Reporting" panel                                      *
    * and the user clicks then Previous button and then from       *
    * "Choose Installation Location and Type" panel clicks Next    *
    * and then Install.                                            *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * Installation of TPC reports fail with "BPCIN0004E An error   *
    * occurred during the installation of the Tivoli Storage       *
    * Productivity Center reports component."                      *

Problem conclusion

  • The fix for this APAR is targeted for the following maintenance
    packages:

    The target dates for future fix packs do not represent a formal
    commitment by IBM. The dates are subject to change without
    notice.
    

Temporary fix

  • A temporary fix includes some manual changes to
    <TPC_INSTALL_DIR>/config/InstallVariable.properties.
    Because this is a TPC internal configuration file, caution
    should be exercised and changing that file.
    It's recommended to ask L2/L3 support to provide an action plan
    after the TPC logs are collected using the TPC service tool.
    
    An example of such an action plan for Windows is the following:
    
    1) click the OK button in the TPC installer and wait until
    installer finishes, then close it.
    
    
    
    2) edit C:\Program
    Files\IBM\TPC\config\InstallVariable.properties and replace:
    
    
    varTCRHostName=
    
    with
    
    varTCRHostName=<real_host_name_here>
    
    
    varTCRPort=
    
    with
    
    varTCRPort=16311
    
    
    
    TCR_INSTALL_DIR=
    
    
    with
    
    TCR_INSTALL_DIR=C\:\\Program Files\\IBM\\JazzSM\\reporting

    Please note that
    <here_the_encrypted_form_with_escaped_equal_sign_see_comment_abo
    ve_about_tpctool_encrypt> must be
    replaced according to the details from below:
    
    
    varJazzSMUsrPW must be saved in encrypted form (encryption can
    be done using
    C:\Program Files\IBM\TPC\cli\tpctool.bat encrypt
    <jazzSM_password_in_clear_here>).
    
    Also, any = sign in the encrypted form must be escaped with a \,
    e.g. for an encrypted password value of LZFV7KXFluECfjcxoDXzQg==
    the escaped value in
    InstallVariable.properties will be LZFV7KXFluECfjcxoDXzQg\=\=
    
    
    
    Then save the changes made to InstallVariable.properties
    
    3) start again the TPC installer to install the TPC reports.
