IT03231: TODATE, TOTIME OPTIONS FOR "EXPORT NODE" COMMAND MAY NOT WORK AS EXPECTED FOR GROUP DATA.

APAR status

• Closed as documentation error.

Error description

• When exporting a node which contains group data with TODATE and
  TOTIME options, the group data which had been backed up after
  the date/time can also be exported.
  
  It is working as designed and should be notified in the manual.
  
  Also, when using the FILEDATA option for the node which contains
  group data, the data which does not belong to target objects may
  also be exported.
  
  For example, if group data will be exported with the option
  FILEDATA=BACKUPACTIVE when the TODATE or TOTIME parameters are
  specified, it is possible that also inactive backup data is
  included.
  
  This applies to all the group data like "base/incremental delta"
  group, "peer" group (VE backup, especially with incremental
  forever backup) and "base and attribute" group (such as table of
  contents for an NDMP backup).

Problem conclusion

• The Administrator's Reference, the TODATE parameter of the
  EXPORT NODE commands will be updated to include the following
  text:
  "Important: If you have group data on the node that you are
  exporting, data
  that was backed up after the TODATE or TOTIME parameters can be
  exported.
  An example of group data is virtual machine data or system state
  backup data.
  The incremental backup processing can cause additional files
  that do not meet
  the filtering criteria to be exported, so that there is a
  consistent image for the
  backup data."
