Error description

  • The value of FILE_SIZE in the CONTENTS view of the Tivoli
Storage Manager server's database may be smaller than the
original size of the object which was backed up or archived from
    a client.

This is observed when the client attribute SPLITLARGEObjects is
set to Yes and the server splits large objects (over 10 GB) into
smaller pieces when stored by a client node.

A select query against the CONTENTS view returns the size of the
    first fragment only.

For example, a query for the file size on a Windows filesystem
    returns:

     26.03.2014 09:39 13735630611 example_file

The select query for the 'example_file' in the CONTENTS view
on the Tivoli Storage Manage server results in:

     FILE_SIZE: 10487247280

A restore or retrieve of the object returns the object with its
    original size.

    Tivoli Storage Manager versions affected:
    7.1 on all platforms

    Initial Impact: Medium

    Additional Keywords:
    tsm Split Large Objects

Local fix

  • Update the node attribute SPLITLARGEObjects on the Tivoli
Storage Manager server to "No" before running backup/archive
    operations.
