Error description

  • com.ibm.mm.sdk.server.PRetrieveCollItemICM did not use the
proper information (defect is only in the multi-item
part/resource item retrieve scenario) to determine the correct
Resource Manager and SMS collection for content retrieval. This
problem happens if some parts/resource items are in other
Resource-Managers/SMS collections, but other part/resource items
are in the primary Resource-Managers/SMS collections.

The symptoms (from the customer perspective) are two-fold: (that
is, both of the following symptoms have to be present):

    (1) The following exception is generated by the APIs:
DGL7161A: Failed to retrieve data from the resource manager.

    *and*

    (2) the DEBUG-level dklog.log contains the following tracing
    message:
"***This item has not been replicated yet***"

Note: There are other, unrelated situations where the DGL7161A
exception can be thrown; unless, symptom (2) above is also
present, the problem is not the problem of this APAR.

Here is a stack that is representative of the problem of this
    APAR:

com.ibm.mm.beans.CMBException: DGL7161A: Failed to retrieve data
    from the resource manager.
    com.ibm.mm.sdk.common.DKUsageError: DGL7161A: Failed to retrieve
    data from the resource manager.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • com.ibm.mm.sdk.server.PRetrieveCollItemICM did not use the
proper information to determine the correct resource manager and
SMS collection for content retrieval. This APAR is specific to
the multi-item part and resource item retrieve scenario. This
problem occurs if some parts or resource items must be retrieved
from a replica because the primary resource manager is not
available, but other parts or resource items need to be
retrieved from the primary resource managers and SMS
    collections.

Both of the following symptoms must be present:

The following exception is generated by the APIs:

DGL7161A: Failed to retrieve data from the resource manager.

The DEBUG-level dklog.log contains the following tracing
    message:
"***This item has not been replicated yet***"

There are other unrelated situations where the DGL7161A
exception can be thrown. Unless the second symptom is also
present, your problem is unrelated to this APAR.

Here is a stack that is representative of the problem of this
    APAR:

com.ibm.mm.beans.CMBException: DGL7161A: Failed to retrieve data
    from the resource manager.
    com.ibm.mm.sdk.common.DKUsageError: DGL7161A: Failed to retrieve
    data from the resource manager.
    at
    com.ibm.mm.sdk.internal.PLobUtilICM.checkResourceFlagForRetrieve
    (PLobUtilICM.java(Compiled Code))
    at
    com.ibm.mm.sdk.common.DKLobICM.initRetrieve(DKLobICM.java(Compil
    ed Code))
    at
    com.ibm.mm.sdk.common.DKLobICM.getContentURL(DKLobICM.java(Compi
    led Code))
    at
    com.ibm.mm.sdk.common.DKLobICM.getContentURL(DKLobICM.java(Inlin
    ed Compiled Code))

Problem conclusion

  • In PRetrieveCollItemICM, instead of using one private member (
_bestRMCode) of the class to determine which resource manager or
SMS collection to retrieve a particular document part in the
multi-item retrieve, use the individually stored information to
make the decision as to the correct resource manager or SMS
    collection for each content retrieval.

This is fixed in cm83 fp11.
