    SP09 does not document the fact that SP06 is a requirement for
    S0P9 to update the NT agent.
    The Abort IBM Tivoli Monitoring log and Abort IBM Tivoli
    Monitoring trace log displays the following error:
    SP06 or greater framework install needed to continue.

Problem summary

  • Service pack 6 or later updates the MSVC for all ITM platform
    components. This change introduced a compatibility issue with
    other non-platform agents (anything other than the OS, SY or HD
    agent) which need to be updated to a compatible level as per the
     "Agent compatibiliy with IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.3.0 Fix Pack 7

    However there was no install check to prevent one from updating
    the core ITM framework components if they were at a level prior
    to service pack 6. Since only a subset of the installed
    components are updated by an agent install to the new MSVC,
    other components not updated by that agent install (eg framework
    commands such as kincmd.exe) would be broken due to the
    mis-match of these components.
    

Problem conclusion

  • Additional checks were added to install (setup.exe) to validate
    that all installed components are to be updated by the agent
    install or that service pack 6 or later core framework
    components are already installed i.e. they have been updated by
    the ITM service pack 6 or later install package. If neither of
    these conditions are met then you will need to first update the
    agent endpoint directly to service pack 6 or later. In the case
    of remote deploy updates, tacmd updateagent" if you have any
    other agents on the target system, that system will first need
    to be updated by direct service pack install.
