Error description

  • When trying to check the amount of space for taking extends in
GDSA storage using the CICS Explorer, one must subtract
SMSLVABYTES from SMSMEMLIMIT and round down. When entering "10
GB" in the Quick Filter, it issues a red X saying "10 GB is not
a valid number". If one enters "10", it returns every result
under 10 GB. The Quick Filter should be updated to use the same
unit of measurement as the column, or it should be updated to
accept 10 GB as value to compare against what is displayed.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • When trying to check the amount of space for taking extends in
GDSA storage using the CICS Explorer, one must subtract
SMSLVABYTES from SMSMEMLIMIT and round down. Values shown in
the Global Dynamic Storage Area tables for storage are shown as
approximate values (e.g. 2MB) but the quick filter expects bytes
(e.g. 21146754). This can mean that not all of the expected
data is being shown to users due to rounding of the number.

Problem conclusion

  • Changes have been made to the quick filter so that it is clear
to users that the values are approximate by prefixing with a
(e.g. 2MB). A tooltip will also be provided which shows the
real byte value. In addition a reminder is provided as a
watermark in the filter box which prompts users with the
required unit at the point of entry.
    .
This fix will be made available in Version 5.5.0.6 of the CICS
    Explorer.
