Error description

  • Problem Environment:
    --------------------
PCOM 6.0.1 on Windows 2008 on VMware ESX 5.x on Blade server
PCOM connected to remote z/OS 1.13 as the z/OS Master Console
A PC with Windows 7 Professional use "Remote Desktop
Connection" RDC to connect to the Windows 2008

    .
    Problem Description:
    --------------------
    - PCOM 6.0.1 is installed on Windows 2008 which is on top of
VMware ESX 5.x in Blade server
    - PCOM was connected to remote z/OS 1.13 act as the z/OS Master
    Console
    - PCOM sound setting used the default.
           (Edit -> Perferences -> Appearance -> Display Setting ->
            Sound)
    - Windows 2008 was configured to properly produce sound
    - In machine room, a PC with Windows 7 Pro is installed and can
    produce sound properly.
    - Operator use the PC (with Windows 7 Pro) "Remote Desktop
Connection" to connect to the Windows 2008.
    - The "Remote Desktop Connection" in Win 7 Pro is configured to
    play sound in local machine.

    in Windows 7 Pro PC
    - However when there is highlighted message in z/OS, the
operator cannot hear any alarm sound from PCOM.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The registered sound events do not *
    * function when emulator sessions are *
    * accessed remotely over the network. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
The registered sound events do not take effect when the 3270 /
5250 emulator sessions are accessed remotely over the network.
For example, when an emulator session connection is
established, appropriate sound is not played. This happens
when the session is accessed through Remote Desktop Client or
Citrix thin-client. The problem has been seen with 64 bit
Windows 7 and Windows 2008 operating system environments.

Problem conclusion

  • Audio mapping was not enabled for emulator sessions accessed
remotely. Code changes were made in PCSW32X.DLL to rectify
    this.

Fix scheduled for PCOM 6.0.10 Refresh Pack
