  documentation. this prerequisite requirement needs to be clearly
  stated as such in any documentation of the process to upgrade

Problem conclusion

• The following information has been added to the limitations and
  known issues technotes for TPC 5.x releases until it is
  available as an update to the Information Center.

  APAR IC99222:  Stop all jobs and reboot servers before upgrading
  Tivoli Storage Productivity Center
  
  Follow these steps before upgrading Tivoli Storage Productivity
  Center:
  
  1. Stop all jobs including performance monitor jobs, system and
  fabric probe jobs, scan jobs, and other probe jobs.
  
  2. If possible, reboot the Tivoli Storage Productivity Center
  servers. This action will stop any remaining Tivoli Storage
  Productivity Center Java processes that might not stop in a
  timely manner. If a reboot is not possible, stop and restart the
  Tivoli Storage Productivity Center server service. It is
  important that the Tivoli Storage Productivity Center Device
  server stopd and restartd cleanly. If this does not occur, a
  server reboot might be required.
