IC94000: PCOM: ENTERPRISE EXTENDER NODE GOES IDLE WHEN NODE STARTED AT BOOT TIME

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Customer is installing PCOMM 6.0.3.
    Customer made the following steps to install PCOMM:
    1) install the product
    2) reboot the windows
    3) create the configuration
    4) customize the PCOMM to use BDN.ACG config as default and
    start automatic during boot
    5) reboot the windows again
    
    After the Windows startup, PCOMM starts, and at the first time
    that customer open the SNA NODE OPERATION, they are receiving
    a word IDLE at upper corner left in red of the screen. At this
    local, should be show the PCOMM Configuration name.
    If customer issued the command CS QUERY, they receive:
    .
    PCS6027I The node is running.
     Default configuration file:c:\ibm\private\bdn.acg
     Auto Start:  On Boot
     Auto Stop:  None
     TP Context:  System
     Active configuration file:
    .
    To solve the problem, customer need to stop/start the Node.
    Customer has an automatic process to do this installation
    because they need to install PCOMM in 20.000 ATM and with the
    IDLE status, customer is not able to continue the installation.
    

Local fix

Problem summary

    IBM Personal Communications is configured for SNA connection.
    The Auto_Start_Option is set to 1 (on boot). The .ACG file is
    configured and the machine is restarted. The SNA node starts
    at boot time and runs actively, but the SNA Node Operations
    utility titlebar shows the status as IDLE and the csquery
    command shows the Active Configuration file to be empty.
    
    The csstart command is not waiting for PCS_AGNT.EXE process
    to initialize the node and shared memory.
    

Problem conclusion

  • csstart.exe has been changed to wait for PCS_AGNT.EXE to
    complete the initialization of the node and shared memory
    before completing the on boot startup of the node.
    
    Fix scheduled for PCOM 6.0.9 Refresh Pack
