IC89883: DATA PROTECTION FOR EXCHANGE BACKUPS ARE NOT INACTIVATED PROPERLY WHEN THERE ARE DASHES IN EXCHANGE SERVER MACHINE NAME.

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Data Protection for Exchange backups are not inactivated
  properly when there are dashes in the Exchange Server machine
  name.
  
  
  When using IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Mail: Data Protection
  for Exchange, to backup when Exchange Servers which contains
  dashes "-" in the machine name, the backups may not be
  inactivated properly.
  
  
  Customer/L2 Diagnostics (if applicable):
  When using Data Protection for Exchange 6.4 in Database
  Availability Group (DAG) environments,backups are stored on the
  Tivoli Storage Manager Server in location seen below in the the
  output of the comand:  'show version <DAGNODE> *
  nametype=unicode':
  \TSM\FULL\00000000000000\MICROSOFT EXCHANGE SERVER\MICROSOFT
  INFORMATION STORE\<DAG NODE NAME>\<GUID>\<DATABASE NAME>
  
  
  However, when the Exchange Server contains dashes "-" in the
  machine name, backups may be stored in the this location
  instead:
  \TSM\FULL\00000000000000\MICROSOFT EXCHANGE SERVER\MICROSOFT
  INFORMATION STORE\<DAG NODE NAME>\<Agent Node
  Name>\<GUID>\<DATABASE NAME>
  
  Since each agent stores the backup in a different Tivoli Storage
  Manager Server filespace location, each backup is viewed as a
  different database and is inactivated separately instead of as
  different backups associated with the same databases.Therefore,
  backups that should be inactivated with future backup
  operations, remain in the active state.

• Manually delete the backups that are no longer useful.

Problem conclusion

• The Tivoli Storage Manager Backup-Archive Client and  the
  Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager VSS Requestor have been
  updated to work properly with server names which contain
  hyphen or dash symbol.
